PLC programming of a welding station for BMW Dingolfing
For BMW's plant in Dingolfing we developed the control program for a laser welding station for battery modules - as the contractor for a defined automation scope within a larger line project.

PLC programming within BMW's battery module production plant
BMW expanded the production of battery modules for electric vehicles at its Dingolfing plant. Within this project, ENSO was responsible for the PLC programming of the laser welding station for battery modules.
The task covered the control program for a station that has to meet the strict safety and quality requirements of the automotive industry, in full compliance with BMW's internal TMO3 production standard.
Siemens S7-1500 with HMI generation in SiVArc
The station is controlled by a Siemens S7-1500 PLC with ET200pro distributed I/O and FESTO pneumatics suited to the industrial conditions of the plant.
The program handles all communication between the station and its surroundings: it exchanges signals with the higher-level Verkettung to receive and release workpiece carriers (Werkstückträger), reads and writes RFID tags - checking whether a part is intended for welding or for the reject station (Ausschleusplatz) and writing the result once the process is complete - and communicates with the welding unit through signal exchange and a safety discrepancy check in the F-program.
In addition, the program generates the complete HMI, integrates the safety functions on F-modules (Not-Aus, door monitoring, laser signal discrepancy), controls the station pneumatics and sends the welding data to the higher-level system.
