DOVA - spring dosing machine

An automatic station that vibratory-doses and weighs springs to a set mass and discharges them into a box on the operator's signal, with full process monitoring via the HMI.

How it works

Vibratory dosing with two-stage filling

Upstream of the scale is an oiling line - physically separate from the machine, but controlled by the same PLC. Springs from the bunker pass along the oiler belt, where the oiler lubricates them, after which the elevator, controlled by signals from the machine, lifts them and fills the hopper. The operator selects the weighing parameters on the HMI panel - filling speed, target mass and permitted tolerance.

The vibrators fill the lower hopper with its gate to the set mass, first at speed V1 and then more slowly at speed V2 for precision - the mass is read by a load-cell scale that communicates with the PLC via the Modbus RTU protocol. When the operator places an empty box, the gate opens and the contents are transferred into the box. After filling, the hopper filling process is repeated and the machine waits for a new box to open the gate.

Control

Interface and control logic

A standard operator interface: a Siemens SIMATIC HMI panel with physical buttons below it for manual/auto operation and cycle control.

Physical control station

  • HMI panel (Siemens SIMATIC)
  • Manual/auto selector switch
  • Start/stop/reset buttons
  • Emergency stop

Functionality

  • Display of box and hopper status (present/full/empty)
  • Input of weighing parameters - speed, target mass, tolerance
  • Tracking of cycle time and cycle duration
  • Mass archive of the last five boxes
  • Manual control of the machine, line and bulk feed
  • Display of warnings and alarms (e.g. empty hopper)
Installed equipment and features

Technical details

Two-stage filling

Fast filling up to a threshold, followed by slower dosing for target mass precision.

Siemens S7-1200 control

The PLC coordinates the elevator, vibrators and hopper gate throughout the dosing cycle.

Modbus RTU communication

The load-cell scale reads the spring mass and passes it to the PLC via the Modbus RTU protocol.

Oiling line control

Through an electrical connection, the PLC dictates the operation of the entire oiling line upstream of the scale - the parts bunker, the oiler belt and the oiler itself, as well as the elevator.

Tracking of the last boxes

The HMI archives the measured mass of the last five boxes for quick quality control.

Schmersal safety relay

Monitors the safety doors and emergency stop independently of the PLC logic.
