MachineInspection and measurement

PLOK - machine for orienting, optical inspection and packing of plastic parts

A machine that orients plastic parts, optically inspects them from all six sides and automatically packs the OK parts into boxes at the outfeed.

How it works

Six imaged surfaces before the packing decision

An AFAG bowl feeder orients the plastic parts and passes them to a linear feeder, where a stopper releases them one by one to optical inspection. The first Baumer camera on Profinet, with blue LED lighting suited to plastic parts, images the top surface, after which a pneumatic rotary transfer unit places the part on a rotary table driven by a Nanotec motor.

On the rotary table, the second Baumer camera images the remaining side surfaces through rotation steps, so that every part is optically inspected from all six sides. Based on the result, the Siemens S7-1200 PLC activates the blower for OK or NOK parts and counts the parts in the three output boxes, which are changed automatically when the cycle is full.

Control

Interface and control logic

A standard operator interface: an HMI panel with physical start/stop buttons below it and an emergency stop button - the same control station operators know from other ENSO machines. An RGB signal tower shows operators the machine status from a distance.

Physical control station

  • HMI panel with start/stop buttons
  • Emergency stop
  • RGB signal tower
  • Two doors for access to the box magazine

Functionality

  • Display of the orientation, inspection and packing cycle steps
  • Parts count per box
  • Manual machine control
  • Display of alarms and errors

Technical details

Inspection from all six sides

Two industrial Baumer cameras on Profinet, combined with a pneumatic transfer unit and a rotary table, image every surface of a part before the OK/NOK decision.

Blue LED lighting

The blue lighting is matched to the contrast of the plastic parts and ensures reliable defect detection.

Rotary table on a Nanotec motor

A Nanotec motor precisely positions the part through the rotation steps needed to image the side surfaces.

Pneumatic rotary transfer unit

After the top surface has been imaged, the pneumatic rotary transfer unit places the part on the rotary table.

Automatic box changeover

Three box positions at the outfeed allow continuous operation without manual operator intervention.

Siemens S7-1200 control

The PLC coordinates the AFAG bowl feeder, the pneumatic transfer unit, the rotary table and the blowing off of OK and NOK parts throughout the cycle.
