How it works

Converting rotation into spring tension and compression with force measurement

By converting rotary into linear motion, the stepper motor drive extends and compresses the spring under test. A force sensor measures the force F(N) at specific points of every cycle, while the spring stroke S(mm) is tracked as well.

The SCADA application on the connected PC collects the data and displays it over time t(s). The device runs three types of tests - a spring characteristic test, a material fatigue test and a repeated characteristic test - and alerts the operator in case of characteristic changes or spring breakage.

Control

SCADA application and control station

Instead of a conventional HMI panel, UMO uses a main switch and physical start/stop buttons on the device, plus a separate monitor with the SCADA application for entering parameters and monitoring measurements.

Control station

  • Main switch and start/stop buttons
  • Transparent protective enclosure of the measuring assembly
  • Separate monitor with the SCADA application

SCADA application features

  • Spring characteristic shown as a graph of force F(N) versus spring stroke S(mm)
  • Variable stepper motor speed according to test needs
  • Alarm limits for characteristic changes or spring breakage
  • Cycle counter and display of the current motor speed

Technical details

Measurement at specific points

The force sensor records the force F(N) across the entire spring stroke S(mm), not just the end values.

Material fatigue test

The device tracks how the spring characteristic changes under long-term periodic variable loads and detects the moment of breakage caused by dynamic stress.

Variable motor speed

The stepper motor speed can be adapted to the needs of each individual test.

SCADA display and alarms

The application shows the measurement graph in real time and raises an alarm when values deviate from the specified characteristic.
