How it works

Rotary table indexing with optical curve inspection

Plastic components are poured into a bowl feeder, which orients them and hands them over to a linear feeder. The linear feeder delivers the components to an electric rotary table driven by a servo motor.

On the rotary table, an industrial Basler camera with a ring light captures the component curve and sends the image to an industrial PC, where the custom-developed OPKO software compares the shape with the reference curve and decides whether the part is good. The PC passes the result to the Siemens S7-1200 PLC - good components go into the box for good parts, while defective ones are separated into a dedicated box by a Festo pneumatic cylinder.

Control

Interface and control logic

A standard operator interface: an HMI panel with physical start/stop buttons, an emergency stop and an error acknowledge button below it.

Physical control station

  • HMI panel (Siemens Simatic)
  • Start/stop buttons
  • Emergency stop
  • Error acknowledge button

Functionality

  • Live display of the component curve image during inspection
  • Real-time part pass/fail status
  • Manual machine control
  • Alarm and error display
Installed equipment and features

Technical details

Servo-driven electric rotary table

The servo drive precisely positions each component at the optical inspection station.

Basler camera for curve imaging

An industrial Basler camera with a ring light captures the component shape and sends the image to an industrial PC.

OPKO machine vision software

The custom-developed OPKO software on the PC compares the captured curve with the reference shape and decides whether the part is good.

Festo pneumatics

Defective components are separated at the outfeed by a Festo pneumatic cylinder, controlled by a signal from the PLC.

Siemens S7-1200 control

After image processing, the PC sends the pass/fail result to the PLC, which coordinates feeding, table rotation and part sorting.

Compact design

The vibratory feeder, control station and optical inspection are all mounted on a single benchtop unit.
